INTERNATIONAL ART RATING

DEAR LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!

For many years the positioning of Russian art of XVIII-XXI centuries in a global world context was discussed in the Rating Center of Artists Trade Union. And now it is time to translate general arguments about the world art in International Art Rating.

The principles of International Art Rating forming are the same as in the United Art Rating. But, to date, the total number of professional artists of the Russian Empire, Soviet Union, "Russian Abroad", the Russian Federation and former Soviet republics is estimated at fifty thousand. And if we approach the world fine arts of XVIII-XXI centuries in absolutely the same principle, the International Artists Rating would have to include hundreds of thousands of creators (by various estimates, from three hundred to four hundred thousand). It is impossible to issue such volume of information.

So we approached the formation of the International Art Rating somewhat differently: we included there only the first three categories, i.e. 1, 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B, 3A and 3B. All over the world (Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, Britain, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Colombia, Cuba, Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Israel, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Pakistan, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia and former Soviet republics, the republics of the former Yugoslavia, the USA, Finland, France, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, Turkey, Japan and some other countries) there are about eleven thousand of such artists. In fact, these artists formed and are forming the history of world art of XVIII-XXI centuries.

This does not mean that we ignored the rest of the creators: categories below the third are required to be worked with at least to select into the three highest categories. Therefore, International Art Rating actually includes those hundreds of thousands of artists, and if someone is interested in the rating of an artist, who was not included in the printed edition of IAR, then you are welcome, please contact the Rating Center and specify his category.

International Art Rating is issued in English as an annex to the reference book "United Art Rating”.

All artists, included in International Art Rating, are included in Internet-project “Greatest world artists of XVIII–XXI centuries”, where their names are shown in alphabetic order without rating categories.

Yours sincerely,

Editor-in-chief and founder of the reference book "United Art Rating”,

chairman of Artists Trade Union of Russia,

Prof. Dr. Sergey V. Zagraevsky
